Dr. Burse is dedicated to understanding the impact of systems on the health of communities, with a career-long focus on improving maternal health outcomes for Black women.
A vocal advocate for policy change in Mississippi and beyond, she has worked across nonprofit, private, academic, and government sectors. She is the founder of Six Dimensions, a Black woman-owned public health agency, and Executive Producer of Laboring with Hope, a documentary on Black maternal health viewed by more than 5,000 people nationwide and featured on BET, NBC, the CDC, and The Kelly Clarkson Show.
A 2019 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Leader, Dr. Burse holds a DrPH from Jackson State University and an MPH and BS from Mississippi State University. She lives in Madison, Mississippi with her husband, Dr. Creston Burse, and their two sons, Chandler and Cooper.
